The Textile Institute 2002

This book is intended to serve as a guide to Quality Management for people from the clothing and textile industries, where the author spent thirty years as a management consultant. It is laid out to serve as a basis for teaching units, with a model quality manual serving as the basis for an integrated project unit. The book also contains a number of case studies.

There are three strands to the subject:

  • Conventional quality management, which must be the basis for the other two;
  • ISO 9000, formerly BS 5750 in the U.K., which is a disciplined approach to establishing a formal written quality system;
  • Total Quality Management (TQM), which was, until 1992, officially known in Japan as Total Quality Control (TQC).

Containing chapters on: Conventional Quality Management, Zero Defects ? How Not to Produce Bad Work; Inspection, Measuring & Testing ? Inputs to Correction; The ISO 9000 Standard ? A Framework for Good Quality Management; The Road to Total Quality Management; Quality Circles; Total Quality Management and case studies in TQM; a model quality manual for an ISO 9001 application
